Judge stayed 10-day jail order after Mulvaney undertook to comply with injunction

A High Court judge stayed the order jailing Liam Mulvaney for 10 days after he gave a sworn undertaking to comply with an injunction barring interference with or trespass at properties in receivership. Ms Justice Caroline Costello adjourned the case to a later date that month while further investigations were made into Mulvaney’s claim that Avondale Lodge was his family home; he and his family were allowed to remain there during that process.

The earlier committal order followed a finding that Mulvaney was in contempt of orders concerning 17 properties. The receiver, Tom O’Brien, had sought his attachment and committal, alleging further interference with the receivership. O’Brien was appointed by Ulster Bank, which claimed Mulvaney owed it €7.5 million on loans advanced between 2004 and 2010.
