Joy Imasogie is on trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on charges of organising a young Nigerian woman's illegal entry, compelling or coercing her into prostitution, and controlling or directing prostitution activities. She has pleaded not guilty. The proceedings were reported on 18 January 2017.

The prosecution said the woman was allegedly brought to Ireland in March 2006 and made to work as a prostitute to repay €50,000. The woman told the court that she had travelled to Dublin on 9 March 2006 after swearing an oath during what was described as a “voodoo process”. The trial continues before Judge Patricia Ryan.
