Jonathan O'Neill’s appeal against his six-year sentence for robbery and aggravated burglary was dismissed by the Court of Appeal on 22 February 2016. The offences arose from a 2012 raid on Clonalvy Post Office in Co Meath and a nearby house.
O’Neill had pleaded guilty at Trim Circuit Criminal Court and was sentenced on 13 November 2014 to concurrent six-year terms. The judgment recorded that the sentencing judge had considered the relevant mitigating circumstances.
The Court of Appeal held that the sentence could not be said to involve an error of principle or a failure to account for mitigation.
