This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Jonathan Dowdall denied lying about Gerard Hutch’s alleged confession to the murder of David Byrne during cross-examination at the Special Criminal Court, reported on 21 December 2022.

The defence challenged Dowdall over recordings of conversations with Hutch, including discussions about a meeting with republican contacts and the Hutch-Kinahan feud. Dowdall maintained that Hutch had told him in a park that he and another man shot Byrne, while Hutch denies the murder.

Dowdall completed his evidence after eight days in the witness box. The case was adjourned until 11 January.
