Jonathan Dowdall accuses Gerard Hutch of family intimidation

By Eimear Byrne

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Jonathan Dowdall accused Gerard Hutch of terrorising his family while giving evidence at the Special Criminal Court on 16 December 2022.

Dowdall was being cross-examined for a fourth day in Hutch’s trial for the murder of David Byrne, who was shot dead at the Regency Hotel in February 2016.

Dowdall said the level of intimidation had increased since he decided to give evidence against Hutch. He told the court that his mother had received threatening phone calls, his children had left school and his daughter had left her job.

Hutch, from the Paddocks in Clontarf, Dublin, had pleaded not guilty to Byrne’s murder.
