Jonathan Conway's car theft sentence adjourned

By Fionn Kelly

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Jonathan Conway’s sentence for taking a BMW without its owner’s consent was adjourned at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, as reported on 2 February 2017. The offence occurred in south county Dublin on 1 July 2016. Conway, a disqualified driver, pleaded guilty to taking the car, dangerous driving, driving without insurance and refusing to provide a sample. Judge Melanie Greally adjourned sentencing until May so further reports could be prepared and ordered urine analysis.

The court heard that the BMW had been taken in Killiney after its owner left the keys inside. Conway later lost control during a Garda pursuit, and the car became briefly airborne before hitting a lamp-post and a wall. Two women in the car suffered minor injuries, while the vehicle was written off. Garda evidence was that Conway appeared to be under the influence of heroin, alcohol and tablets at the time.

This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
