Jonathan Collopy was ordered surrendered to Bulgaria over a drink-driving conviction by the High Court on 22 June 2021. The Limerick man was wanted to serve an 18-month sentence imposed after he was convicted in his absence in Bulgaria in May 2016.

Mr Justice Paul Burns rejected concerns about detention conditions, saying Bulgarian authorities had given clear assurances about medical treatment and health insurance. Collopy was remanded in custody and given 15 days to consider the judgment.
