Jonathan Collopy ordered extradited over drink-driving conviction

By Cathal Brosnan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Jonathan Collopy was ordered surrendered to Bulgaria over a drink-driving conviction by the High Court on 22 June 2021. He had challenged extradition over the risk of inadequate medical care for severe back pain. Judge Paul Burns found adequate provision would be made for his medical needs and no real risk of inhuman or degrading treatment.

The court ordered his surrender to Bulgaria, where he was wanted to serve an 18-month sentence imposed after a drink-driving conviction in his absence. Collopy was remanded in custody pending a later mention and given 15 days to consider the judgment.
