John Walker was jailed for three and a half years at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 11 December 2019 after being convicted of 40 indecent and sexual assault charges against his adopted daughter.
The offences occurred at family homes in Dublin between 1990 and 2000, when she was aged eight to 17. Judge Patricia Ryan said the abuse was planned, predatory and a grave abuse of trust.
Walker had no previous convictions and maintained his innocence. The judge also considered his age, medical conditions and previous contribution to society before imposing the sentence.
