Jason Kavanagh convictions quashed in tiger kidnapping case
This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.
Jason Kavanagh had his false-imprisonment and robbery convictions quashed by the Court of Criminal Appeal on 24 May 2012.
The convictions arose from the kidnapping of a family in Raheny, Dublin, and the robbery of €2.28 million from Securicor Security Services Ireland Limited in March 2005.
The court ruled that evidence obtained through constitutionally invalid search warrants could not support the convictions and ordered a retrial.
This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
