Professional boxer Jamie Kavanagh was refused bail by Judge Michael Walsh at Dublin District Court on 10 November 2015. He faced a single count of violent disorder concerning an alleged incident outside the Jackson Court Hotel on Harcourt Street, Dublin, on 23 September 2014. The report said trouble broke out after door staff refused entry to his group following his father’s funeral.
Jamie Kavanagh was arrested at Dublin Airport on 9 November 2015 as he and his partner were about to fly to London. He was taken to Pearse Street Garda station and charged. Garda Niall Murray told the court that he made no reply when charged. The court was told that the DPP had directed trial on indictment in the Circuit Court.
Garda Murray opposed bail, citing the seriousness of the case, the strength of the evidence and fears that Jamie Kavanagh would not attend trial. He said CCTV footage clearly identified the defendant. Garda Murray alleged that Jamie Kavanagh was involved in a large fight and that door staff were hit a number of times.
Judge Michael Walsh remanded Jamie Kavanagh in custody to appear at Cloverhill District Court on Thursday, as the report described the next appearance.
