James Walsh was remanded in custody at the Central Criminal Court ahead of the remainder of his sentence hearing on 14 December 2016. The proceedings were reported on 1 December 2016.

Walsh pleaded guilty to possession of a pistol firearm with intent to endanger life. The offence arose from a shooting at 6pm on 26 March 2014 at the Church of the Transfiguration, Bawnogue Road, Clondalkin, Dublin 22.

Prosecution counsel Brendan Grehan SC told the court that the plea was acceptable to the Director of Public Prosecutions and that a nolle prosequi — a decision not to proceed — would be entered on another count of attempted murder of Michael Frazer at the same place.

The court heard that circumstantial evidence linking Walsh to the shooting included CCTV, telephone analysis, ballistic and DNA evidence. The report said Walsh was arrested on 5 December 2014. He was detained and questioned but made no comment.

This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
