Jake Emmet received a five-and-a-half-year custodial sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Judge Nolan backdated it to January.
Emmet pleaded guilty to demanding money with menace at an address in Balbriggan on September 15, 2024, and assault causing harm at Trimblestown, Balbriggan, on September 25, 2024. He also admitted three counts of producing a knife in a manner likely to intimidate another person. The proceedings were reported on October 29, 2025.
The court heard that Emmet and another man told a woman that her husband owed a €3,000 drug debt. Emmet threatened her with a knife and sent threatening messages over the following days. Garda Ciaran McCabe said the victims maintained they had never received drugs from any of the defendants.
Garda McCabe agreed with Colman FitzGerald SC, defending, that Emmet was not the person “running this operation”. Counsel asked the court to consider Emmet’s history of drug addiction.
Judge Nolan said there was an intention to seriously harm the victim during the assault and that the attack would have caused considerable trauma and distress. He noted a previous conviction for blackmail when imposing sentence.
