High Court rejects challenges to Meath data centre and grid connection

By Fionn Kelly

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

The High Court rejected Mannix Coyne and his daughter Ann Coyne’s challenges to planning approvals for a data centre and associated grid connection works near their home in Clonee, Co Meath. Mr Justice David Holland dismissed all grounds in their two judicial review cases.

The Coynes had argued that the approvals failed to address climate emissions and breached environmental and other rights. The court’s judgment, delivered on 21 July 2023, dealt with the data centre and the separate approval for a substation and grid connection. The case will return to court for final orders at a later date.
