A High Court order to arrest Glen Oglesby over his failure to leave an ESB substation site in Dublin could not be carried out until the following week because of Garda “manning issues”, the court heard on 31 May 2024. Mr Justice Mark Sanfey had made the arrest order on 29 May, after finding Oglesby in contempt for not complying with an earlier order to vacate the site and remove his caravan.
The ESB says the substation at Gloucester Place Upper is unsafe for people to live on. Oglesby disputed its claims and said he had nowhere else to go. He told the court that his caravan was well away from the transformers and dangerous parts of the substation, and that adjoining houses and sheds were closer to those areas.
At the 31 May hearing, the judge said he was disappointed the arrest order would not be acted on until the following week and expressed concern about the site’s danger.
