Gerardine Scanlon challenges Grant Thornton data claims in High Court
This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.
Gerardine Scanlon was before the High Court in pretrial motions concerning Grant Thornton’s claims about confidential information. The proceedings were reported on 23 May 2017.
Scanlon rejected claims that she had disseminated or retained confidential material from a computer disk mistakenly sent by the accountancy firm. She said Grant Thornton had made “fairly scandalous” comments about her, including claims that she demanded €1m to make the case go away and had breached court orders.
Grant Thornton accepted that it mistakenly sent data to Scanlon in September 2015. The injunction proceedings were resolved in December 2015 when she agreed before the High Court to hand over the information. The firm claimed she had not complied with that order, while Scanlon opposed its application to strike out her defence and counterclaim, although she accepted her defence might have to be altered. Mr Justice Gilligan was due to give his decision in a few weeks.
