Gerard Manning’s appeal against his murder conviction was dismissed by the Court of Appeal on 20 December 2018.
The conviction followed a trial at the Central Criminal Court concerning Martin Purcell’s death at an apartment on Wickham Street, Limerick, between 28 and 30 September 2011.
The appeal challenged the admission of interview evidence and evidence relating to a knife, as well as the refusal to discharge the jury over late disclosure.
The Court of Appeal held that the evidence had been properly admitted and the trial judge was correct not to discharge the jury.
Manning had been convicted by an 11:1 majority verdict on 21 March 2013 and subsequently received a mandatory life sentence.
