This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Geraldine McMenamy was acquitted of assisting an offender by impeding his arrest at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, reported on 9 December 2014. The charge concerned allegations that she brought her son to Dublin Airport and gave him €400 on 8 February 2012.

A jury acquitted Ms McMenamy of assisting an offender by providing money, while Judge Martin Nolan directed a not-guilty finding on the transport charge. The report said there was no evidence she had been driving the car used to travel to the airport.

The case followed her son’s conviction and sentence for assault causing serious harm to Nicola Murray, who suffered serious brain injuries. The court report said Ms McMenamy told gardaí she feared her son, while the defence argued that he had been free to leave the country.
