This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

A 16-year-old boy was sentenced to three years in detention, with the final 21 months suspended on strict conditions, after a jury convicted him of three charges of oral rape and one of rape of a 13-year-old girl he had been dating. He will serve 15 months at Oberstown detention centre. The offences were alleged to have occurred in a County Galway housing estate between June and July 2023, when he was 14.

The judge placed him under Probation Service supervision for three years after release, ordered him to comply with directions from the service or an agency acting for it, and placed him on the sex offenders’ register for three years. He was also ordered to have no contact with the girl. The report says he continues to deny the offending and does not accept the jury’s verdicts.
