A Galway man was jailed for seven and a half years, with the final year suspended, for raping three girls, in a Central Criminal Court case reported on 12 April 2018.

He was convicted after a nine-day trial of 19 rape charges, sexual assault and buggery involving his foster sister, as well as one rape charge involving each of the other two girls.

The offences occurred between October 2003 and May 2007, when the girls were aged between six and ten. The judge said the man’s age at the time and brain injury were relevant, but noted his greater age and experience than the victims.
