This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Eoin McKinley pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to assault causing harm. The assault took place at Wetherspoon’s in Westend Retail Park, Blanchardstown, on 30 May 2016. The proceedings were reported on 12 March 2019.

The court heard that the injured man had remarked to a friend that a group in the pub’s beer garden was loud. McKinley threw a glass towards their table, and it smashed on a fence. A fight then broke out, during which McKinley smashed a glass into the man’s face, breaking his nose and leaving a scar on his left eyebrow.

In a victim impact statement, the man said he had lost €1,000 through medical bills and lost wages and believed alcohol was the biggest factor in the altercation. Garda Seán Grehan agreed with defence counsel Mark Lynam BL that McKinley was quite intoxicated. Lynam said McKinley had applied for a loan to provide €3,000 in compensation.

Judge Melanie Greally described the assault as “a very serious glassing” because the man was hit near his eye. She ordered a community service report and adjourned the matter to 25 June.

This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
