This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Dylan Walsh was given a five-year prison sentence, suspended in full, at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court after pleading guilty to endangerment, damaging a garda vehicle and driving without insurance. Judge Pauline Codd also disqualified him from driving for 10 years.

The court heard that Walsh drove off while a uniformed garda was partly inside his car, dragging the officer for about six metres. The garda suffered injuries to his arm, neck, head and elbow and was unable to work for five months. The officer said the incident affected his confidence and career in frontline policing.

The court heard that Walsh had 12 previous convictions, mainly for road traffic offences. The judge set a headline sentence of six and a half years, citing the offence’s seriousness and the garda’s injuries. She also considered Walsh’s mental health difficulties, steps he had taken to address them and his remorse. The suspended sentence is conditional on probation supervision for three years and compliance with his mental health regime.
