Doroscan and Clejan sentenced to life for Mahamud Ilyas murder

By Fionn Kelly

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Viorel Doroscan and Otniel Richardo Clejan were sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering Mahamud Ilyas, 22, at the Central Criminal Court. A jury had unanimously convicted them earlier in 2025 after they denied the charge.

At sentencing, Mr Justice Tony Hunt said the men had suffered a “massive loss of control and reason” during the assault, but that their callous actions after driving Ilyas to Belgree Lane extinguished any chance he had of surviving. The judge expressed sympathy to Ilyas’s family. The court heard Clejan had no relevant previous convictions; Doroscan had two convictions for drug possession and one for possession of drugs for sale or supply.
