Donegal teenager denies rape and oral rape charges at trial

By Aoife Loughran

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

A teenager denied one count of rape and one count of oral rape of a schoolmate in Co Donegal. The alleged offences took place outside a building in a town in the county in the early hours of 18 March 2016.

He gave evidence at the Central Criminal Court on the eighth day of his trial. The proceedings were reported on 13 July 2018.

The teenager said the girl gave no verbal or physical indication that she did not want sexual activity. He said that after he spoke to people in a van nearby, he noticed she was upset and uncomfortable and told her they did not have to continue if she did not want to.

He rejected suggestions that she repeatedly said she did not want oral sex and that he pushed down on her shoulders. He also rejected a suggestion that he forced her legs apart, pushed her against a wall and raped her despite her asking him to stop.

The accused said he could not account for multiple bruises and abrasions recorded on the girl, apart from a cut on her head which he said happened when her head struck a wall while they were kissing.

The report said the trial would resume on Monday. It reported no verdict.
