This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

A man was acquitted of rape at the Central Criminal Court, reported on 26 February 2016.

The charge concerned an alleged rape in an alleyway in a Donegal town during a night out in July 2012. The man had pleaded not guilty. The jury heard evidence about consensual sexual contact, the alleged assault and the defence claim that he stopped when the woman protested. The verdict was delivered after the trial, and Mr Justice Tony Hunt told jurors it was not a judgment against anyone.
