Judge Martin Nolan ruled at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 15 February 2024 that Derek Keane could have his driving licence restored.
The proceedings were reported on 15 February 2024.
The conviction followed the death of Callum Grimes, who was struck at Loughshinny, Skerries, Co Dublin, on 27 December 2016.
Judge Nolan said Keane had completed the required two-thirds of his prison sentence. The State had opposed the application because of the offence’s seriousness and the distress it caused in Skerries.
Keane had been sentenced to five and a half years in prison and disqualified from driving for six years. He was released after serving four years and two months.
Keane had previously pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death and failing to provide assistance at the scene.
