The Workplace Relations Commission rejected Donna Ash’s unfair dismissal complaint against Skerries Golf Club, finding that the redundancy of her job was not a sham after examining the club’s financial records.
Adjudicator Conor Stokes found that outsourcing the cleaning function would produce a sizeable saving. While he identified shortcomings in the redundancy process, he said those did not undermine the economic case for outsourcing.
Stokes also said honorary secretary Donnacha Neary’s credibility was somewhat undermined after he initially tried to swear an oath using his work diary instead of a Bible. Neary ultimately gave evidence under affirmation.
