David Murphy was jailed for attempted robbery at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, in a report published on 21 November 2018. He received five years, with the final four suspended, consecutive to three reactivated years from an earlier sentence. Murphy had pleaded guilty to attempting to rob a Centra on Camden Street, Dublin, on 28 December 2017, after planning the raid to help clear his son's drug debt. Judge Melanie Greally said that reason was not mitigating.

The court was told Murphy entered the shop with his face covered and scissors, threatened a staff member and was then restrained until gardaí arrived. His 64 previous convictions included burglary and robbery. The judge took his remorse, guilty plea and wish to address his drug problems into account when suspending part of the new sentence.
