Daniel McDonnell’s appeal against his murder conviction was adjourned at the Court of Appeal on 28 November 2017 because he was medically unfit to attend. He was serving a mandatory life sentence for murdering Melanie McCarthy McNamara in Tallaght on 8 February 2012.
The court was told McDonnell was suffering from a psychiatric illness, and his counsel sought time for an updated report on his psychiatric circumstances. The appeal was put back to 18 December, when a new hearing date was expected to be fixed. McDonnell had been convicted unanimously by a Central Criminal Court jury and sentenced on 24 January 2014.
