Dainius Sakevicius pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to one count of assault causing harm. The offence took place on 26 December 2022. The proceedings were reported on 22 January 2024.

The court heard that Sakevicius had been drinking for five days before assaulting his then partner. She had gone to bed at about 10.10pm, and he entered the room around 30 minutes later looking for a speaker. He punched her repeatedly, including to her forehead, right eye, nose and mouth.

She suffered facial bruising and swelling, a loose tooth and soreness in her arms. She attended St Vincent’s Hospital and was later referred to St James’s Hospital. The court heard that she later made a statement of withdrawal and declined to make a victim impact statement.

Gardaí found Sakevicius intoxicated and he was deemed unfit for interview. The investigating garda agreed with defence counsel Eamonn O’Moore that Sakevicius was polite and courteous in his interactions with gardaí. Counsel said Sakevicius did not normally drink, accepted that what he did was wrong and recognised that underlying issues had to be addressed.

Sakevicius had no previous convictions and had not come to recent garda attention. Defence counsel said he had paid more than €4,000 towards the victim’s medical costs. Judge Orla Crowe adjourned the case to 14 April for finalisation and directed that a probation report be prepared.

This report covers an earlier stage of the case. Later developments are not reported here.
