A Dublin woman who told a court that she did not know if she was “Jesus or a slice of toast”, due to her mental health at the time of an alleged public order offence, has had the case struck out.

Valerie Folan (48), with an address at Ferrycarrig Drive, Coolock, Dublin 17, appeared at a sitting of Bray District Court charged with a public order offence.

It is alleged that on January 2, at Strand Road, Bray, Ms Folan was intoxicated to such an extent that she might endanger herself or people in her vicinity.

Sergeant Mick Canavan told the court that the investigating garda is currently on maternity leave.

He added that Ms Folan was at risk of a custodial sentence.

Ms Folan told the court that at the time of the alleged offence she was “very sick”, but that she has since been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

She stated that she “didn’t know she was Jesus or a slice of toast”, before Judge Paula Cullinane struck the matter out.
