Clement Limen lost rape conviction appeal

By Cathal Brosnan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Clement Limen lost his appeal against rape convictions at the Court of Appeal, reported on 19 December 2019. The convictions concerned two women at his apartment in Sligo town. The court rejected arguments about similar-fact evidence, the lawfulness of his arrest and his access to legal advice during questioning.

Limen had previously received a seven-and-a-half-year prison sentence at the Central Criminal Court on 11 December 2017. The Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal after finding no basis to conclude that the jury had misunderstood the evidence.
