Ciaran Folan loses appeal over fake driving licence

By Niamh Kearney

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Ciaran Folan lost his appeal against conviction for using a fake driving licence at the Court of Appeal, reported on 23 February 2018. The licence was used at Lambstown Lane, Fethard-on-Sea, on 13 February 2009.

Folan had been convicted by a jury at Wexford Circuit Criminal Court and fined €3,000 in 2013. The Court of Appeal found his trial was not unsatisfactory and the verdict was not unsafe.

The case arose after concerns about Folan’s driving skills led to an investigation, which found he had never applied for or taken a driving test.
