Christopher Redmond jailed for rape and sexual assault

Christopher Redmond was sentenced to five years for rape and sexual assault at the Central Criminal Court, reported on 27 April 2018. He was convicted of four rape counts and five sexual assault counts involving his granddaughter between 2002 and 2004.

The judge reduced a 15-year headline sentence because of Redmond’s age, lack of previous convictions and progressive cognitive impairment. She also said the absence of sentencing guidance in rape cases was “somewhat bizarre”, with little information about the terms imposed in earlier cases.
