Christina Joyce’s four-and-a-half-year sentence for assault causing harm and endangering a garda was upheld by the Court of Appeal on 19 July 2019. She had pleaded guilty to those offences and related trespass and criminal-damage charges arising at Macken Villas, Grand Canal Dock, on 9 April 2018.
The three-judge court dismissed Joyce’s appeal, finding the offending involved serious serial conduct, including reckless driving and break-ins while evading arrest. The court said her assault and endangerment of Garda Thomas Gallagher were particularly serious and found no error in the decision not to suspend any part of the sentence.
