Camden Knopka’s sentence hearing in the attempted murder case was put back until March. The proceedings were reported on 18 December 2023.

The court heard that the fire occurred in Athboy, County Meath, on 19 September 2019. After leaving the house, Knopka locked the front door while his mother was inside and threw away her keys.

The report said Knopka initially claimed the fire was an accident but later admitted deliberately setting it in a conversation with his mother. Following his arrest, he said he had taken opioid flowers, wine and tablets, was out of his mind and was very sorry.
