Breffni O'Rourke was sentenced to two years, with the final 12 months suspended, at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 30 July 2012 for indecently assaulting a pupil. The offence occurred at his home in County Meath in June 1987, when the girl was aged nine or 10.
O'Rourke had been convicted by a jury after pleading not guilty. The judge cited the breach of trust involved and took account of the 25-year lapse and O'Rourke's previous good character when suspending part of the sentence.
