Aoife Maguire wins appeal over Revenue conspiracy sentence

By Ruairí Dolan

This report is a localnews.ie summary based on public court reporting and records; sources are listed below.

Aoife Maguire had her sentence for conspiring to delete bank accounts and defraud Revenue reduced by the Court of Appeal to nine months, with any unserved portion suspended, on 21 December 2015. The original offences concerned Anglo Irish Bank accounts and occurred in 2003 and 2004.

Maguire had originally received an 18-month sentence from Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 31 July 2015 after being convicted by a jury following a two-month trial. Mr Justice George Birmingham said the original sentence was unnecessarily severe and that the sentencing judge had failed to consider suspending part of it.
