A Galway man’s appeal against five indecent assault convictions was dismissed by the Court of Appeal on 17 December 2024, after Ms Justice Tara Burns upheld the verdicts. He had been convicted at Galway Circuit Court on 30 November 2022 and sentenced by Judge Brian O’Callaghan on 15 June 2023 to 23 months in prison.
He had pleaded not guilty. His barrister argued that the jury’s verdicts were perverse because of inconsistencies and the alleged unlikelihood of the complainants’ accounts, and challenged the refusal to hear the cases separately. The State opposed the appeal, which was dismissed.
The proceedings were reported on 18 December 2024.
