A 57-year-old Co Donegal man was sentenced to two years, with the final six months suspended, for sexual assault at the Central Criminal Court on 13 February 2020. The offences occurred at a family home in Co Donegal in 2003 and 2004, when the victim was aged between 13 and 15.

The man had denied seven oral rape charges, but was acquitted of those charges and convicted on alternative sexual assault counts. Ms Justice Carmel Stewart said the convictions arose from concessions made by defence counsel during the trial. The man had no previous convictions.
