22-year-old man pleads guilty to rape and sexual assault charges

A 22-year-old man pleaded guilty at the Central Criminal Court to six charges, including rape, oral rape, anal rape and sexual assault. The proceedings were reported on 4 June 2019.

The offences occurred at his home in Co Cork between 1 November 2011 and 26 June 2016. His cousin was first abused when she was five and told her mother about it when she was nine. The man was aged between 15 and 19 during the abuse.

Mr Justice Michael White revoked his bail and remanded him in custody for sentencing, which he adjourned to 21 June. The judge said the sentence would include a substantial custodial element. He declined the girl’s request to have the man named, saying that doing so would tend to identify her.
