The Labour Court has recommended moving people on the Principal Medical Officer scale to the Specialist in Public Health Medicine scale from 1 July 2024. The recommendation, dated 17 June 2026, followed a claim by 28 GP Doctors Employed In Guh and represented by IMO. IMO sought Grade Code 152X for 26 members originally employed in Breast Check at Galway University Hospital. The employer, HSE Rha West And North West, said the code was not configured for national use and it lacked authority and funding to apply it without national approval. The Court said the employer should have made the need for national sanction clear earlier and found no justification for some people being on a lower scale. It recommended moving those on the Principal Medical Officer scale to the Specialist in Public Health Medicine scale, and recommended that IMO explore the separate Grade Code 152X claim as a national claim.
