The Labour Court recommended retrospective payments for two senior nurses at Beaumont Hospital over their work in the hospital’s Centre of Education. It recommended that Nurse 2 accept €26,814.98 and that the hospital increase its offer to Nurse 1 to €42,636 for four years’ retrospection. The recommendation was dated 28 May 2025.
The union, the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, sought a Director of the Centre of Education and restoration of educational resources. It said Nurse 1 had carried both her own workload and the Centre’s lead role for nine years, and sought €90,400 in retrospective pay. For Nurse 2, it sought placement at the tenth point of the Nurse Tutor scale and €55,766.
Beaumont Hospital said the Director post had not existed since 2007 and there was no budget for it. It offered Nurse 2 €26,814.98 and Nurse 1 €31,977 in retrospection, with Nurse 1’s allowance not pensionable. The Court recommended the higher four-year payment for Nurse 1, noting the allowance was not pensionable. It said the payments would settle the issues relating to the two workers and also recommended that the union accept an invitation to discuss a recent retirement in Learning and Development.
