Labour Court sets aside recommendation on Garda worker’s probation extension

The Labour Court set aside an earlier recommendation that An Garda Síochána remove a three-month probation extension from a worker’s file and restore his incremental date to that of his classmates. The decision was dated 18 October 2024. The worker, represented by the Garda Representative Association, said the extension delayed his increments. An Garda Síochána said workplace issues would have led it to extend his probation regardless of the extension applied during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Court found that An Garda Síochána had followed the agreed procedures and could not recommend conceding the worker’s claim.
