Labour Court recommends Ministry Brands goodwill payment to former worker

The Labour Court recommended that Ministry Brands Limited make a former worker a goodwill payment equal to one additional week’s pay and provide a statement of employment, as full and final settlement of a dispute about his dismissal during probation. The recommendation was signed on 9 September 2024. The employer did not attend the hearing but had notified the Court in advance. The worker said he understood his contract to entitle him to pay through the end of probation and also sought a statement of service. The Court noted that his performance had been reviewed, he could bring a colleague to the termination meeting and he had been granted an appeal.
