The Labour Court recommended that Smartbox Group Ltd pay an unnamed worker compensation of one month’s salary after finding a flaw in the process used to review her probation. The recommendation was dated 29 January 2024. The worker, who was a Production Manager, said her probation was extended after staff survey feedback that she was not allowed to see. She said she resigned because she felt her efforts were not acknowledged and believed her manager was moving towards dismissing her. She also said she had to leave the office on the day she gave notice, but confirmed she was paid a month’s salary in lieu of notice. Smartbox Group Ltd did not attend the hearing or provide a submission. The Court said the worker had resigned, but found the failure to give her the information gathered through surveys and relied on to assess her future with the company was a flaw in the probation review process.
