The Labour Court upheld an Adjudication Officer’s recommendation in a dispute between the Central Bank Of Ireland and a worker over his role and work objectives. The decision was dated 21 November 2023, and the worker’s appeal failed; the merits were not decided. The worker said he had returned to work in 2012 without a clearly defined, resourced role and sought compensation for losses he believed exceeded €600,000. The Central Bank said it was willing to implement the mediator’s report as amended by the Adjudication Officer. The Court said resolving an industrial relations dispute did not necessarily involve compensation of the kind sought. It considered the 2014 mediator’s report, as amended by the Adjudication Officer, an appropriate way forward. The recommendation increased the report’s figures by €12,500 for general damages and €7,500 for loss of opportunity.
