Labour Court urges Indeed Ireland to engage with workers through union during redundancies

The Labour Court recommended that Indeed Ireland engage respectfully and constructively with workers through their chosen union when jobs are at risk, after a redundancy dispute involving approximately 200 workers. The recommendation was dated 18 May 2023.

The Financial Services Union said its members were denied the chance to engage collectively during the redundancy process and felt they had no choice but to sign individual settlement agreements. Indeed Ireland did not attend the hearing or make submissions.

The Court regretted that workers had not been facilitated to engage through their union while their jobs were under threat. As they had already lost their jobs and concluded settlements, it saw little value in recommending specific information, consultation or redundancy terms. It recommended respectful engagement and use of the State’s dispute-resolution framework when needed.
