Labour Court recommends rejecting Gardaí's allowance claim

The Labour Court recommended rejecting a claim by 22 Gardaí for unsocial-hours allowances while they were self-isolating at home in January 2021. The recommendation was signed on 28 February 2023. The Garda Representative Association said a manager had committed to paying the allowances during self-isolation, but An Garda Síochána and the manager disputed that account. The Court noted that the claimants had not worked unsocial hours while isolating and had received basic pay. It concluded they were not entitled to the allowances and recommended that the claim be rejected.
