Labour Court sends Galway City Council pay dispute to national forum

The Labour Court recommended that the dispute over starting pay for the 5 Admin Grades be placed on the agenda of the next national forum. It said any national resolution should be applied to the four employees by agreement. The recommendation was signed on 1 November 2021. Galway City Council was represented by the Local Government Management Agency; the 5 Admin Grades were represented by Forsa, Galway Office. The union said employees had been penalised on promotion after acting in higher positions; Galway City Council maintained that their starting pay followed the relevant circular. The Court said four people had been appointed permanently and declined to interpret national circulars definitively in a dispute affecting four people. It recommended that the fifth person's matter also go to the forum if appropriate.
